(Used) Selmer Super Balanced Action 40*** Silver Plated Tenor Sax
There weren't many SBA tenors made, there were even fewer silver ones! making this an extremely rare horn that would certainly be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase for any sax player.
According to the Selmer archives this instrument was sold in June 1950 in silver plated finish with no engraving, as it is today.
The instrument is in fantastic playing condition having been fully serviced and the cosmetic condition is extremely good for a 70 year old instrument, but there are a few signs of previous repair, some of which may have been accompanied by some spot-plating to preserve the complete plating coverage that we see today, giving this horn a very pleasing aesthetic quality that is virtually unheard of with such rare collectable instruments.
Like most SBAs the tone is full, luxurious and unmistakably 'Selmer' but, unlike lacquered horns, this one has that added harmonic presence and sonic willingness of silver.
