KING SUPER 20

About a week ago we smashed the all time record for ‘shortest time a saxophone has been on sale in the shop’, the bar has now been set at just over 2 hours!

So you’re probably thinking it was just a bargain student yamaha that someone snapped up on a whim. Not at all. It was in fact a King Super 20 Tenor Saxophone with full pearls, solid silver neck and standard brass bell, this thing was INSANE!

Talk about responsive!! You only had to look at this horn and it was already halfway through a chorus of Stella, and if looks could kill I would’ve been 6 feet under before we’d even stuck the crook on.

Jokes aside, this is one of the best horns I’ve ever played (albeit for only about 5 minutes), extremely responsive, immaculate projection and ergonomics which despite its age and origin are as comfortable for modern horn users as any new Selmer, Yanagisawa or Yamaha.

It was yet again a horn that as soon as it was out the door made me think “I wish I’d kept that one for myself!!!!” but of course, that’s not what we’re here to do. The very lucky customer who walked away with it was already trying out tenors when this came in to the shop so it was definitely a case of right place at the right time!

I’m sure it’s not the last one we’ll see in the shop but anyone who is au fait with the King Super 20 market knows that these don’t come very often, so getting my hands on this luxurious example of master craftsmanship was certainly the highlight of my week….. that and Attenborough’s new Blue Planet II.

Anyway, I managed to quickly snap a cheeky picture of it for all you perverts out there.... enjoy ;)
